How to Download

August 12, 2026 · 3DVIP

Downloading from 3DVIP takes three steps. This page also covers what to do when something goes wrong, because with large scene files it sometimes does.

The three steps

  1. Open the model page and check the specification panel on the right — renderer, 3ds Max version, file size, polygon count. Make sure it matches what you can open.
  2. Press Download. A short summary of the usage terms appears. Read it and confirm.
  3. You are sent to the file host — usually Google Drive or MEGA — in a new tab. Download from there.

No account is needed on this site, and nothing is charged at any point.

After downloading

Unpacking

Files arrive as .zip or .rar archives. Windows opens .zip on its own; for .rar you need 7-Zip or WinRAR.

Unpack the archive completely, into its own folder, before opening anything. Do not open a .max file from inside the archive viewer — 3ds Max will not find the textures, and you will get an untextured scene and think the file is broken.

Opening the scene

Scenes are saved in the 3ds Max version listed on the model page. A newer version opens an older file, but not the other way round. A scene saved in 3ds Max 2025 will not open in 2022, no matter what you try — check the Platforms line before downloading.

Set your renderer to the one listed — V-Ray or Corona — before opening. Opening a Corona scene with V-Ray active gives you grey materials and a wasted afternoon.

When something goes wrong

The scene opens but everything is grey or black

Textures are not linked. In 3ds Max, use Asset Tracking (Shift+T), select the missing maps, and point them at the texture folder inside the archive you unpacked. This happens because texture paths are stored as absolute paths from the original artist’s computer — it is normal, not a damaged file.

A missing DLL or plugin warning on open

The scene uses a renderer or plugin you do not have installed. Install the renderer named on the model page, or open the scene and let 3ds Max replace the missing objects — you will lose those specific objects but the rest of the scene loads.

The archive will not extract

Usually an incomplete download. Check the downloaded file size against the size listed on the model page; if it is smaller, download again. Large files from a browser fail more often than most people expect, particularly over unstable connections.

The download link is dead

Third-party hosts remove files, and links do expire. Report it — send the page address to contact@3dvip.org and we will replace or remove the entry. We would rather fix it than leave people clicking a dead button.

If the link is missing entirely, the download address returns a proper 404 rather than sending you to a broken page on someone else’s site.

Before you use a file

Scan every download. Files come from third-party hosts and are provided without warranty of any kind.
